BETTING SCANDAL

A German prosecutor has alleged that a gang had rigged 200 soccer games in nine countries in Europe including Turkey. The prosecutor from Bochum said in Turkey 29 games, including three from the country's premier league, had been fixed. UEFA officials are set to meet with Turkish counterparts on November 25 to talk about the allegations.

RETIRED COLONEL FOUND DEAD IN SUSPECTED SUICIDE

A retired navy officer was found dead in the garden of his Istanbul apartment building on Friday in a suspected suicide after jumping out of his 10th floor apartment balcony. Ret. colonel Belgutay Varimili was the head of an financial inspection unit in the Defense Ministry which investigated into former navy commander Ilhami Erdil for fraud allegations. Erdil was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

"MY NOTES CHANGED HANDS THREE TIMES"

Mustafa Balbay, the representative of Cumhuriyet daily in Ankara, said during a hearing of the second Ergenekon case that "his journalism in Ankara" was shown as a crime in the indictment. Balbay said, "my notes have changed hands three times, they were even broken into pieces when they were being put before you. The notes claimed to belong to me were written in other computers."

BUSY TRAFFIC WITH IRAN

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met foreign ministers including those of the United States, Russia, Britain and France in Afghanistan. Then, he proceeded to Tabriz, Iran. Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Motaki, who just returned from the Philippines, joined the talks with Davutoglu.

Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad, Motaki and Davutoglu debated Iran's nuclear program about which the Western countries, particularly the United States and Israel, have doubts. Davutoglu said, "Turkey is ready to do what it has to do."

GAME-FIXING SHADOW OVER SOCCER

A total of 200 matches in Europe, including those in Turkey, were fixed. Bochum prosecutor announced that there were also three games in the Champions League among those that were manipulated. 29 games in Turkey are suspicious, and 17 people have been arrested so far.

NUCLEAR TENDER CANCELLED

The Turkish Electricity Trading and Contracting Inc. (TETAS) cancelled the tender on the construction and operation of Turkey's first nuclear power plant. There was only one bidder in the tender. The Energy and Natural Resources Ministry has launched initiatives for a new tender. This time, there will be public-private sector consortium in the tender.
